Appointments

You are registered with the medical practice, therefore you can see any doctor. You may request to see a doctor of your choice. However, if this doctor is unavailable, you will be offered an appointment with another doctor or can choose to wait until he/she is available.

You may be asked for brief details by the receptionist to enable them to advise you of the appropriate appointment for you. It may be that your query does not need to be dealt with by a doctor and you could be assisted by one of our Minor Illness Nurses or the Dispensary for example.

The availability of these appointments will be determined by Doctor’s leave and other commitments such as emergency cover.

Saturday Mornings on a rotational basis: 8.30am - 11.00am.

Emergency Doctor Appointments

The Emergency Doctor exists to deal with unforeseen medical problems and emergencies.

These appointments are available to book on the day. They are shorter in length than a standard routine appointment.

It is our policy to only deal with one problem in these appointments i.e. the nature of the emergency.

Any other issues that you wish to discuss of a routine nature would need to be dealt with at an alternative appointment, booked for the future.

Patients using this clinic may find they have a long wait for their appointment.  This could be due to either another emergency that is being dealt with prior to your appointment or the possibility of the Doctor having being called out to an urgent house call.

Please assist our GPs in the running of this clinic and use it for the purpose it is intended.

Minor Illness Nurse Appointments

We have three Minor Illness Nurses who are trained to diagnose and treat minor illnesses, including issuing prescriptions and sickness certificates. They cannot, however, issue repeat prescriptions.

The vast majority of their appointments are available to be booked on the same day.

Home Visits

Home visits are reserved only for those patients who, in a doctor’s opinion, are unfit to travel to the Surgery.

This is because we have access here, at the Surgery, to specialist equipment and investigations and the Surgery is where we are able to provide you with the best care.

If you think you need a Home Visit, please call the Surgery on 01525 300898 ideally before 10am to allow the doctor to prepare for the day. The receptionist will ask for brief details of the problem and your contact details so that the Doctor can contact you if necessary.

If you think an you need an urgent visit a doctor will telephone or visit as soon as possible.

What to do when the Surgery is closed

If you require a doctor outside of surgery hours please telephone 111.

111 is the NHS non-emergency number which is fast, easy and free. By calling 111 you will get to speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you. NHS111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobiles.

Call 111 if:
  • you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
  • you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • you don't know who to call or you don't have a GP to call
  • you need health information or reassurance about what to do next
For less urgent health needs, contact your GP or local pharmacist in the usual way.

If a health professional has given you a specific phone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, continue to use that number.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.

Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service

Call Centre - Patient booking line: 0330 133 1027 (local call rate)

Patients must have their NHS number to hand when they call to book a journey.

Patient information about local transport services is also available on the BCCG website - Health and advice on getting to your healthcare appointment.

Why Patients Should not miss their GP Appointment

Dated: 28-Jul-15

Whenever someone misses their GP appointment, a slot is wasted that could have been offered to another patient.  It is a problem that affects every medical practice resulting in longer waiting times to see a GP or nurse at their local surgery because of the numbers who fail to attend.  On top of that it wastes NHS resources, particularly when an appointment is cancelled at very short notice.

While there is sometimes a genuine reason for a patient not being able to make their appointment, in most cases it does seem to be down to forgetfulness, or the patient deciding they no longer need to see a clinician.  Most worrying is when a patient asks for an urgent same day appointment and then fails to turn up.

To help fit in with the daily demands of people’s lives, we offer different types of appointment including same day routine and urgent appointments, appointments bookable 24 hours in advance and six weeks in advance.  In addition to this most patients now have the option to book appointments online and receive a reminder by text.
