Travel Immunisations

We are pleased to offer a travel advice and immunisation service to registered patients for travel that is at least 6 weeks in advance.

Unfortunately due to the high demand on practice nurses appointments to enable essential NHS services are offered to our patients e.g. blood pressure checks, dressings, it is unlikely we will be able to offer appointments for travel vaccinations if your date of travel is within 6 weeks of submitting the form.  We would therefore advise you visit a travel clinic instead.

If you would like to use our travel immunisation service, please complete a pre-travel questionnaire in one of the ways detailed below.

We would also ask that you visit the travel website  www.nathnac.org before completing the travel questionnaire to give you a greater awareness of the requirements there may be in the areas of the world you are travelling to.

Why do we need 6 weeks?

Complicated vaccination schedules such as Rabies, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis and Tick Borne Encephalitis require a minimum of 6 weeks to ensure adequate protection.  It takes 4 weeks to complete the vaccination course and 7-10 days to acquire immunity.  Additional consideration needs to be made to allow for appointment availability.

Patients may need to return for multiple appointments to perform vaccinations and malaria risk assessments.

How to complete a travel questionnaire

  • Online by completing our online form – Please complete the form with as much detail as possible and then click on ‘submit’. Please telephone the surgery approximately 7 days after submission to establish if vaccinations/advice is required and to make the necessary appointments.
  •  Download a pre travel questionnaire. Complete the form and either post it to us or hand it into reception or fax it to us. Please telephone the surgery approximately 7 days after submission to establish if vaccinations/advice is required and to make the necessary appointments.

Please note the Practice are only able to offer a limited number of nurse appointments for travel, as we have to ensure there are sufficient appointments for essential patient services such as wound care.

If we are unable to offer you a suitable appointment or your date of travel is within 6 weeks, we would suggest you contact a private travel clinic for your travel vaccination assessment/advice and vaccinations.  Click here for details of local private travel clinics.

Please remember:

  • It is unlikely we will be able to offer appointments for travel vaccination if your date of travel is within 6 weeks. You may therefore not want to waste time completing the travel questionnaire.
  • It is your responsibility to contact the surgery 7 days after submitting a form to establish what vaccinations you may need. We will not contact you unless we cannot fulfil your travel vaccination request.
  • We do ask for payment of travel vaccinations in advance of your appointment, so would ask that you pay at reception before your appointment. We accept cash, cheque or credit and debit card payments.

We wish you a very enjoyable trip.
